PCR Definition of PCR

Definition of PCR

PCR, or Polymerase Chain Reaction is defined as a molecular technique which allows the production of large quantities of a specific DNA from a DNA template using a simple enzymatic reaction without a living organism, such as E. coli or yeast.

PCR - Polymerase Chain Reaction, is a recently developed molecular biology procedure (1980s) for the in vitro amplification of DNA.  PCR has transformed the way that most studies requiring the manipulation of DNA fragments and DNA cloning may be performed as a result of the simplicity and usefulness of PCR.
